The Independent Non-Executive Director of Celtic PLC is described on the Celtic website:

In his biography from Bloomberg’s Businessweek:

‘Mr. Ian Paul Livingston, B.A, A.C.A. has been the Chief Executive Officer of BT Group plc, the holding company of BT Global Services since June 1, 2008. Mr. Livingston serves as Chief Executive Officer of BT Wholesale Limited. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of Enterprises Division for BT Retail, subsidiary of BT Group Plc from February 7, 2005 to May 2008. He served as Group Finance Director of BT Group Plc since April 2002.’

So yet again we have another Accountant/Group Finance Director as an Independent Non-Executive Director on the Celtic PLC board. His day job is CEO of BT, which, as we shall see below, is one of the biggest UK users of tax havens to keep it’s earnings away from the UK taxman. Again being an accountant/finance director he cannot say he had nothing to do with how BT has structured it’s tax avoidance.

Also in the ethos of Brother Walfrid’s ethos of looking after the poor, in October 2010, Ian Livingston as BT CEO signed a letter to ‘The Telegraph‘ from the ‘Captains’ of UK industry telling George Osborne to keep up the good work cutting welfare and deepening austerity measures while last year he took home a remuneration package of £7.7 million.

Mr Livingston chairs Celtic’s Audit Committee.  I am surprised he isn’t on the Remuneration Committee since he seems to know about getting a lot of Remuneration for himself.

I don’t know how Mr Livingstone complies with Brother Walfrid‘s admirable ethos of looking after the poor. Aren’t directors supposed ‘in management speak‘ to ALIGN with their company’s Ethos/Culture/Mission Statement. It really shows Celtic’s remarkable ability to ignore really obvious deviancies from their defined culture. Some people could see this as hypocrisy.

BT’s Tax Haven Network of Subsidiaries

During the Olympics, The Ethical Consumer website looked at ‘The Great Olympic Tax Swindle‘ and as well as looking at the IOC tax free status they also looked at major sponsors use of tax havens to avoid tax and low & behold BT is one of the highest users of tax havens:

Ian Livingston Supports George Osborne’s Austerity Cuts

In October 2010, Livingston sent a letter to The Telegraph supporting George Osborne’s policies to reduce deficit funding by endorsing cuts to Pensions, Welfare, Health and Education. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1321274/George-Osborne-plans-scrap-child-benefit-age-16.html

BT CEO Earns £7.7 million

‘His £7.7m take-home pay largely comprises his £921,000 salary and £1.3m cash bonus, a deferred share award of £481,000 and the £4.7m three-year payout.’ http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2012/may/24/bt-boss-pay

But he was willing to make sacrifices: ‘Mr Livingston sought to pre-empt accusations of fat-cat pay by forgoing any salary rise in the current year’. Jesus my heart bleeds. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/mediatechnologyandtelecoms/telecoms/9288620/BT-boss-Ian-Livingston-gives-up-salary-increase-to-send-signal-over-fat-cat-pay.html

And he wants to cut welfare payments. I wonder how his package is structured for ‘Tax Efficiency‘? Do you think he’s paying the top-rate of tax?

Since Ian’s company doesn’t pay enough tax and wants to cut Health, Welfare & Education spending he wants you to contribute to Children in Need. He’s even supporting a Bear wearing a Poppy.

They say Accountants are boring well here’s Ian Livingstone discussing BT‘s Annual Report so judge for yourself:

And here’s one for the Green Brigade and Celtic Trust on his support for Globalization. Note: Surprisingly he doesn’t say anything about BT using tax havens to reduce revenue for developing countries:

Redeeming Factor?

Livingston has been a non-executive director of Celtic Football Club for many years and tries to get to as many home games as possible. oddly, one of his brothers supports Rangers.’
