Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland, Margaret Curran creates a shadow over transfer of WSHA public land to Celtic

The is the first of several posts, because this stuff goes deep into the heart of the Glasgow City Council, Scottish Labour party cabal that has worked under the momentum of the redevelopment of the East End, the East End Regeneration Route/The Clyde Gateway and The Commonwealth Games to deliver cheap land to Celtic PLC.

The current Shadow Secretary of State for Celtic, oops, Scotland, Margaret Curran MP (Labour) appears to have been caught acting for Celtic in commercial negotiations with the sale of public land owned by the West of Scotland Housing Association (WSHA) to the detriment of the public purse.

Previously WSHA & Celtic were in negotiation to swap some land – the WSHA land being in the Celtic Triangle, where Glasgow City Council (GCC) land normally disappears into Celtic PLC’s arms at very low value. Just look on it as the West of Scotland Bermuda Triangle. The earlier negotiations between WSHA & Celtic resulted in no formal signed agreement but Celtic claimed there was a ‘Gentlemans’ Agreement‘ for the transfer of land at no cost. As they say a verbal agreement is not worth the paper it wasn’t signed on – verbal agreements are useless in matters of property. It has to be written & signed.

WSHA wanted more money from Celtic for transferring the WSHA land and it appears Celtic brought pressure to bear on WSHA by inviting Margaret Curran to the negotiations on 11th October 2013 according to the Minutes of Meeting generated by the WSHA Management Committee meeting for 23rd October 2013 (see document below).

Note: Celtic invited Margaret Curran not WSHA. She came at their behest. Now why is she getting into the middle of a negotiation which is just restarting after period. Why the rush now? Looks like the momentum of the East End Regeneration Route (EERR)/The Clyde Gateway and The Commonwealth Games are being used to bulldozer, pardon the pun, the transfer of land to Celtic PLC. From the minutes, the pressure can be seen to be exerting on WSHA not to ask for the extra money from some of the attendees.

Now why was a Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland interfering in commercial negotiations between a public body and a private company & why was she invited by the private company? Was it to put pressure on the public body?

Now she is the Glasgow East MP but her affection seems to go much further.

Well here is an excerpt from Ms Curran’s Maiden Speech in Parliament:

Curran Maiden speech

Was she there as a fan, shareholder, Labour Party member, MP, Shadow Secretary or all roles or some collection of roles?

Even if she isn’t a Celtic shareholder or fan she should not have interfered in commercial negotiations between a public body, whose funding she might have under her in government in the future.

Many thanks to pzj, The Engineer & several others for the source material etc.

  2. http://www.parliamentaryrecord.com/content/profiles/mp/Margaret-Curran/Glasgow-East/1311 under recreations she is definitely a football fan and going by her comments that “paradise is, in fact, in the east end” doesn’t take a genius to work out which team she supports

  3. Why is the SNP not dragging her arse across the Scottish Parliament? She babbled on at the last Labour conference about VALUES, FAIRNESS and EQUALITY and how the Labour party set the bar for these qualities. Then she gets personally involved, using her public position to help bully a housing Association into giving land to her Favourite Football team, to the determent of the public purse. Why? Because Celtic asked! Or was it to hold WSHA accountable for a verbal agreement by someone (no doubt another Celtic supporting GCC employee) who promised CFC they’d get the land for nothing. The hypocrisy of our MPs is utterly disgusting. What an opportunity is being missed to show Scotland how corrupt and self-serving Labour has been, and why? Because the SNP don’t want to piss the wrong people off before the Referendum! Are they scared that people would see our countries politicians as crooks and a UK government as a more responsible leader? Pretty Spineless, to know the kind of things your main opposition gets up to and you do nothing because it suits your political objectives.

  5. The point I’m making is this ….
Land surrounding football stadia is worthless and not fit for any other purpose except for others making millions on the back of these clubs needing this land .

    • So private companies should be given public assets for free? What position do you hold at GCC? Did you read the next post about the land that was swapped to WSHA by Celtic was polluted? How much use is polluted land to a public housing corp?
